I am writing to encourage your readers to organize a company team to ride in the MS Society Bike Tour for the Western Connecticut Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society in Norwalk, which serves Fairfield and Litchfield counties.

I know other companies will benefit as mine does from participating in the “Down to the Sound” bike tour.

It’s a perfect team-building event: Administrative layers are flattened to fellow riders, and a rich, new sense of community and camaraderie is shared. Employees see each other in a new light and collaborate as equals in designing and executing the team’s plan to raise funds. The tour also provides exhilarating exercise.

Cycling to support the fight against multiple sclerosis, a neurological disease that strikes young adults in the prime of their lives, is particularly meaningful to riders who realize that many of those with advanced multiple sclerosis are not able to ride or enjoy many other pleasant pastimes we take for granted.

A company team also can bring significant company visibility to local communities teams are embellished with logos, interviewed by the press and their peers, participate in the ride with more than 700 riders, and compete fiercely with other corporate teams to raise the most funds.

The 2007 MS Bike Tour, Down to the Sound, will be held Sunday, Sept. 16. It starts and finishes at Sherwood Island State Park in Westport, and check-in begins at 8 am. It is a beautiful ride through the Fairfield Country countryside, and there are well-marked 12-, 30- and 65-mile routes.

For information or to register, visit the Web site www.msswct.org or call Tina Birkic at the local MS Society (203-831-2971, ext. 27).

Last year, our team raised $32,572 to fight multiple sclerosis and we all felt very good about that. I hope to see lots of corporate teams on Sept. 16.
